TCE Transitioning Field Canvass to Phones

March 17, 2020

Texas Campaign for the Environment has faced crises before – Hurricanes Ike and Harvey. Now the COVID-19 pandemic is hitting Texas like a storm and changing daily life as we knew it.

Public health experts are requesting that we practice “social distancing” right now in order to reduce the spread of infection and alleviate pressure on our healthcare system. While it is core to our organizational identity to organize with Texans face-to-face, we are heeding the call to take this crisis seriously.

Texas Campaign for the Environment is taking extraordinary precautions by temporarily transitioning our door-to-door canvassing efforts to phone canvassing. We believe this is the best course of action to keep our communities and our organizers safe.

As a TCE supporter, you know that our funding, our political muscle and, frankly, our joy comes from meeting amazing people like you in communities all over Texas. Instead of knocking on doors, we will now be meeting Texans on the telephone. To do this, we want your help.

We’ll be calling supporters like you to introduce our environmental campaigns and ask for contributions so we can continue this work.

We know this health crisis is affecting many people. If you are in a position to support us at this time, please donate now to keep TCE organizers working for a cleaner, healthier future for Texas.

This transition will not be easy. But we won’t quit, even in the face of unprecedented conditions. So, if you receive a call or message from us – please respond!

Please remember, “social distancing” does not have to mean isolation and powerlessness – With your help we’ll be stronger than ever during these uncertain times. In the meantime, we’re asking that you stay in touch and help with what you can to allow us to reach more people.

GET INVOLVED

Instead of holding our Annual Meeting in-person in Dallas on March 29, we invite you to a video/phone meeting that day from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Make a plan to join us virtually and tune in to collective environmental work with TCE. Participate by suggesting your ideas or asking questions. RSVP for meeting details to donna(at)texasenvironment(dot)org or phone 512-326-5655, extension 1003.

Contributions to Texas Campaign for the Environment are not tax-deductible because we are a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization.

This gives us the freedom to hold elected officials accountable and to affect local, state and national legislation.

Tax-deductible contributions can be made to our sister organization Texas Campaign for the Environment FundVehicle donations, workplace giving and other options here.
