Texas Campaign for the Environment: Victories 2002
TCE begins working with neighbors of two problem landfills run by Waste Management and BFI in Northeast Travis County to press for action on noxious odors at the landfills and other problems.
TCE mobilized thousands of Texans to pressure the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to begin cleaning up the pollution from its large fleet of diesel vehicles. Many of these letters and signatures were presented to a TxDOT Commissioner at a statewide press conference where TCE stole the show with our efforts to hold TxDOT accountable for their pollution problems. On June 4th, TxDOT finally agreed to start cleaning up it diesel fleet.
TCE was invited to join the national Computer Takeback Campaign to pressure Austin-based Dell on the issue of electronic waste, or e-waste. Thousands of letters were sent to Dell and state legislators calling for action on e-waste. TCE had a strong presence at the Annual Meeting of Dell shareholders.
