Green-goers see red over H2Orange water

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The new University of Texas Tower-shaped bottled water is getting some heat from "green scene" advocates wanting to reduce waste.

UT alum are spearheading a protest Friday afternoon against the H2Orange bottled water after hearing Monday plans to market the plastic bottled water, in part to raise scholarship funds.

Texas Campaign for the Environment Executive Director Robin Schneider said this goes against a ban on plastic bottle beverages in campus residence halls. She added it also isn't in line with the city's goal to reduce waste in trash and landfills by 90 percent.

Schneider said they were forced to take to protesting after not getting a response from officials heading up the marketing plan.

The protest, which UT alum are set to attend, will take place from 2:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the university's West Mall and Guadalupe Street.
