e-waste recycling campaign: take action!
When the Texas Legislature meets from January to June in 2011, state lawmakers must strengthen
our state law so it requires electronics producers to provide Texans with free and truly convenient
recycling options. To win this campaign, we need your help.
2. Send letters to your State Senator and Representative. Texas has a Computer TakeBack Recycling law on the books, but it doesn't cover TVs or other electronics and it doesn't create truly convenient recycling programs for Texas residents. Contact your lawmakers and tell them you want better legislation!
3. Encourage your City Council and/or County government to pass a resolution in favor of a stronger e-waste recycling law in Texas.
Do you know your Mayor or Councilmember? Are you familiar with your City's political process? We've developed a few helpful tools for passing resolutions, as a resource for you to help get your local government on the record.

The true solution for both the financial and environmental costs of electronic waste, or e-waste, is not to take more funds away from other local programs to pay for the management of these discards, nor to spend more scarce state funds to provide aid to cities and towns for the management of electronic products. Instead, the costs for collecting and recycling electronic products should shift from municipalities and taxpayers to the manufacturers of these products.
4. Take the next step: contact us and work with TCE to make sure the State Legislature gets with the recycling program. The elections are over and the state legislators have been chosen. Ask for a meeting with them or their staff. We’ll train you and possibly come with you, if you want. We’ll work together statewide to make the case that effective e-waste recycling creates jobs, saves tax-payer dollars and is good for our health and our state. Join us in working for better recycling policies at the State Capitol!
