Dallas Residents: Email Mayor Rawlings and the City Council Today!

The Dallas City Plan Commission wisely voted to deny three proposed gas drilling (or "fracking") sites near the Luna Vista Golf Course in Northwest Dallas. They also voted to deny a proposal to build a huge gas refinery and compressor station just 600 feet away from the new Elm Fork Soccer Complex.

But Mayor Rawlings and the City Council will make the ultimate decision, and many of them have gone on record supporting it. We need you to email the City Council now and tell them to oppose this proposal.

Far worse than gas wells, compressor stations are huge, heavy industrial facilities that pour tens of thousands of pounds of toxic and smog-forming pollution into the air. The refinery equipment is meant to process toxic chemicals like hydrogen sulfide. These facilities are known sources of benzene and formaldehyde emissions, both of which cause cancer. City officials don't even know how much of this pollution the facility will be releasing each year. In short, putting this so close to where our families enjoy soccer fields and other recreational activities is a terrible idea. Mayor Rawlings should live up to his promise:

“I will never vote to put any neighborhoods at risk because of money.”
-Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings

This doesn't belong a few hunderd feet away from our kids!

While Mayor Rawlings and other city leaders have been promoting a new golf course near the Trinity River in South Dallas, he is endorsing fracking immediately adjacent to the Luna Vista Golf Course in Northwest Dallas. There is also a school, North Hills Preparatory, located about 1,200 feet away. Their track and field team, as well as countless other D/FW residents, uses the section of the Campion Trail that runs just a few hundred feet from the site.

Mayor Rawlings is pushing to approve these drilling and refinery permits before the city adopts a new ordinance to better regulate gas drilling. We need you to hold the Mayor and City Council accountable! Please click below to send your message today.

Email Subject: Oppose gas refinery and drilling near soccer fields, school

As a Dallas resident, I am concerned about the Trinity East gas refinery and drilling applications that were denied by the City Plan Commission. I urge you to uphold this decision—please vote against these dangerous proposals as well.

The more we learn about the gas refinery and compressor station the company has planned, the more outraged we should be about allowing this just 600 feet away from the new Elm Fork Soccer Complex. According to estimates given by Trinity East itself, this refinery would be the tenth largest source of hazardous air pollution in all of Dallas. The Gas Drilling Task Force recommended against allowing facilities like this anywhere in the city, let alone near our parks and soccer fields. Allowing a gas refinery so close to where our families play is unthinkable.

Another proposed drilling site is about 1,200 feet away from Irving’s North Hills Preparatory School. Their track and field team, as well as many other D/FW residents, uses the section of the Campion Trail that runs just a few hundred feet from the site. Proposing to put a drilling site adjacent to these children is also unacceptable, and the Task Force also recommended against allowing drilling in such an area.

Please oppose these dangerous proposals. Thank you for considering my comments.
